Dimensional Analysis Calculator
Convert units with a factor-label trace, exact conversion-factor notes, and dimension mismatch checks.
Converted value
Enter a value
The factor-label trace appears below.
| Step | Numerator | Denominator | Exact | Remaining unit |
|---|
converted value = starting value times starting-unit scale divided by target-unit scale
How?
How this is calculated
Each supported unit stores a dimension and a scale to a canonical unit. The tool first checks that the dimensions match. It then multiplies by the factor needed to cancel the starting unit and leave the target unit.
Exact factors, such as inch to centimeter and hour to second, are marked in the trace. They change the value but do not reduce the displayed precision.
Formula: converted value = starting value times starting-unit scale divided by target-unit scale
